Bills/Texans 1pm Sunday

Hello 1,937 Bills Fans,

With a 2 game road winning streak the Bills return home this week at
1pm to face the Houston Texans.  Trent Edwards is still out with the
concussion he sustained in the Jets game, and next week is a bye, so
it's Ryan Fitzpatrick's last chance to prove he's a better
quarterback.  While the offensive play has not gotten much prettier,
Fitzpatrick has at least shown a refreshing willingness to throw the
ball deep.  It'll be his first game in the Ralph, so let's hope he
enjoys the comforts of home and we enter the bye week with a three
game winning streak and a full blown QB controversy on our hands.

McFadden's and Calico's will be rocking as always so come over and
enjoy this mini-resurgence with all your Little Buffalo friends.
Drink specials start at noon and run until the end of the game.  Also,
it's daylight savings time on Sunday, so be sure to set your clocks
back an hour.

Check out Phil's column - A View From Calico Jack's, Week 7:

Kelly's Call:
Did you know Jim Kelly has a column on BuffaloBills.com?  His latest
effort talks about the Bills QB struggles and doesn't pull any
punches.

Jets Game Wrap-up:
Thanks to everyone that came out and tailgated with us before the Jets
game two weeks ago.  I think it was our biggest turnout ever, which is
really saying a lot considering how bad things looked before the game.
Hopefully everyone enjoyed themselves at the tailgate and  stuck
around long enough afterwards to watch all the sad Jets fans leave the
parking lot.  I know I did.

Marathon:
This Sunday is the 40th NYC Marathon.  It's an amazing event that
showcases the best of the city and I'd like to encourage everyone to
head out before the game to watch and cheer on the runners.  I'll be
out there running this year so if you see a guy in a Bills shirt sure
be sure to yell extra loud because I'll need the help to finish fast
enough to get to Calicos for the second half!  Good luck to any other
runners out there!

Go Bills!  Go SABRES! (7-1-1 so far!)

4pm Tailgate in the Swamp!

"Neither snow nor rain nor heat nor gloom of night stays the NYCBBB
from throwing our 7th Annual Tailgate Extravaganza!"

Hi All 1,943 Diehard Bills Fans,

It's that time of year again, when we take over Lot 16, Pole C and
show those disgusting Jets fans the true meaning of Tailgating!  The
weather forecast is pretty gross but that won't stop us.  Pack your
jackets, boots, hats and mittens (all waterproof of course) and join
us!  On a personal note, this is my 6th year running the tailgate, and
my 7th tailgate overall and I'm not going to let a little rain dampen
my fun and neither should you!

Here are the details – Kickoff is 4pm, and we'll have things up and
running by 12ish.  We'll be in Lot 16, by Pole C.  Look for the huge
collection of Red, White and Blue in the sea of puke green.  If you
plan on driving you MUST pre-purchase a parking pass.  Ebay and
Stubhub have a bunch on sale if you need one.

McFadden's was nice enough to donate beer and Bloody Marys and we'll
be selling $5 wristbands as a fundraiser for our annual operating
costs.  The Bloody Marys are always a huge hit so get there early if
you want some.  We don't supply food but there is always plenty of
grill space so feel free to bring food.

For those of you not venturing into the swamp, McFadden's and Calicos
will be showing the game with the usual specials.

Billboard
Has everyone seen this?  A Bills fan started a website to raise money
for a billboard calling for Ralph to clean house and in a couple of
days raised more than enough money.

Videographer Wanted
The NYCBBB is working on a secret video project and is in need of

interested.

Food Network
A show called "Tailgate Warriors" is premiering on Saturday Night a
9pm on the Food Network.  The first show was filmed at the Bills/Bears
preseason game and features many NYCBBB friends like Pinto Kenny and

Squish the Fish and New Era Giveaway

Hey everybody,

Knock knock.
Who's there?
Owen.
Owen who?
0-3 and goin' to be 0-4.

Despite playoff prospects, if there are 2 games a year that matter most to Bills fans, it's the two times me meet the stinkin' fish. They are just as banged up than the Bills. We lost McKelvin for the season, but they lost Pennington. Porter looks questionable. Both Whitner and Scott are out at the safety positions this week. Luckily the backup secondary is playing against a green QB in his first NFL start.

But one thing's certain. BEAST MODE IS BACK! Hey I love what Fred Jackson has done, but Marshawn is a notch or two above, in my opinion.

Please, please, please. AVP, Trent, whoever. Get Owens and Evans involved more. Some how. Some way.

It'll be another 4:05 start. Hey, what's up with that? Personally, I love the 1pm starts.

New Era Giveaway!
New Era sent us some pretty cool Buffalo Bills hats and t-shirts to give away. Rather than do something very elaborate, were going to have a simple first come first serve chance drawing. Reach into a bag or something, pull out a ticket, and if it's a winner you'll get your choice. Please see me, Matt Soreco, in Calico Jacks this Sunday to take your chance. The only catch... I will take your picture with your winnings. I'll try to make it in long before kickoff so it's not too much a distraction during gametime. But we'll run it until we're out of goods.

In the meantime, check out their sweet Buffalo Football collection (some of which will be part of the giveaway):

Then Levy Said to Kelly: The Best Buffalo Bills Stories Ever Told:
Sometimes reflecting on the glory years helps you cope with the last 10 years of disappointing Billsfandom. Jim Gehman's book does just that. It's gotten some good reviews on Amazon. Check it out:

Jets Game Tailgate:
I got a few e-mails regarding this. We are working on the details as we speak. We'll send out more details shortly. Regarding tickets... Your best bet right now is e-bay, stubhub, etc. We don't have any special deals or packages or any special source for tickets.

Darryl Talley Interview:
I love this interview with Darryl Talley. Check it out:

Hope to see you Sunday. My first game at the bars in over a year! Remember, see me for a chance to win New Era gear!!

TO Was a Great Move for Buffalo

When TO was dropped by Dallas, I quickly emailed friends and said "Let's sign him!"

Nobody replied, probably thinking I was either joking, or a joke myself.

But I was dead serious, signing a legit #2 wide receiver HAD to be the priority for this team in Free Agency. It was the only hole (of many) on the team that could not be filled via the draft. It was imperative to bring in a WR that could draw away attention from Lee Evans, give a developing Trent Edwards another legit target, and give this stuttering offense some life. Going into 2009 with the same receivers as 2008 wasn't going to cut it. Thankfully, the Bills agreed.

What do the Bills get in Owens? Let's start with the football side. They get a 35 year old elite Hall of Fame worthy WR who is certainly on the decline, but still better than Parrish, Reed, Hardy, or Johnson. I mean, its not even close.

On the locker room side, they get a "me" player, somebody not afraid to get in a coach's or player's face and let them know he's selfish. He can divide a locker room, and make playing for a team miserable.

On the marketing side, at 6:13pm yesterday, Buffalo was put back on the national map. TO and the Bills were on the front of every sports website, lead every sports newscast, and are still the talk of the sports world today. Love or hate TO, he WILL sell tickets (topic of another post to come) and will draw national media attention throughout the season. That is music to the ears of those vested in the Buffalo/Toronto series that need it to succeed.

In the end, its a great risk for the Bills to take. They get their #2, and Owens goes to a small market team where there will be less microphones around, and a low key city that may bring TO down a notch or two when he goes out to dinner and folks treat him like any other Buffalonian. I also think Jauron, a coach who I am no fan of, is the right personality for the drama queen. He's a player coach, no Bill is going to side against him so the chances of TO dividing the locker room are slim. Wade Phillips allowed a locker room to divide the Bills in the Flutie/Johnson era, so its no surprise he had the same problem with TO. Jauron is also even keeled and emotion-less. I don't see him being phased by TO getting in his face, it'd be like screaming at a rock.

In the end, its a one year deal, and I anticipate Owens only being a Bill for one year. He will either play so well he'll be awarded a huge contract elsewhere, or play his way off the team. Don't expect TO to be a Bill in 2010, that's probably a good thing for somebody who wears out his welcome everywhere he goes.
